Crazy Cake

This chocolate cake has no eggs or milk. It is spongy, like normal cake, and gets good reviews everywhere. There are hundreds of recipes for this, (See Cookbook USA CD), but this recipe is the one I wrote in 1974 in fourth grade.


1 1/2 cups flour
3 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda

Mix the dry ingredients directly into an ungreased 9" cake pan. When the dry ingredients are well mixed, use the back of a spoon to form two holes.

5 tablespoons oil in one hole
1 teaspoon vanilla and
1 teaspoon vinegar in the other hole.
1 cup water poured over the whole thing.

Mix with a fork until moistened.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
