Kimberly at the Issaquah Salmon Days Festival, 2007, with Magissiwa
Magissiwa came to HawkQuest in 2001 from the northwest Raptor Rehabilitation Center in Sequim, Washington, where she had been since 1999. She was taken to the rehab center in Sequim as a young eaglet, 6 weeks old, after a series of events which began when the male of the nesting pair (her father) was shot. The female (her mother) abandoned the nest and the two chicks in it. Both eaglets subsequently fell from the nest for an unknown reason and Magissiwa survived the fall. She is an imprint, does not know how to hunt, and relates to people because of the young age at which she was rescued. Her name comes from the Ojibwe word migizi which means bald eagle. She is now seen, admired and loved by thousands of people who see her in the environmental education programs of HawkQuest.
